The CEO of the Future: A Q&A with Denise Morrison

News

Campbell’s President and CEO Denise Morrison participated in a Q&A about the CEO of the Future at the James Beard Foundation Food Conference on Oct. 19. Morrison talked with Fortune’s Beth Kowitt about the future of food, including increasing consumer demand for fresh foods, and what Campbell is doing to respond to change in the food industry.

“We see seismic shifts and health and wellness is a major consumer shift. We’ve seen it manifest in consumer demand for fresh and organic food,” said Morrison. “These shifts inspired us to acquire Bolthouse Farms, Plum Organics and Garden Fresh Gourmet.”

Morrison also highlighted how consumers are holding big food companies to a higher standard. “At Campbell, we welcome that standard. We welcome transparency. We have to be open and honest about the food we make,” said Morrison. “I believe consumers have the right to know what’s in their food, how it’s made and how it’s grown.”

In response to this consumer demand for greater transparency, Campbell recently launched www.whatsinmyfood.com, where consumers can find out more about our foods, where they come from, what goes into them and the choices behind those decisions.

The James Beard Foundation is a not-for-profit organization that promotes and celebrates culinary art through education, events, and programs.
