Campbell’s® Chunky™ Soup and the NFL Team Up for “Tackling Hunger®” Program
CAMDEN, N.J.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Sep. 30, 2009– The battle of the gridiron is back … both on and off the field! Celebrating its 10th year helping to fight hunger, Campbell’s Chunky soup is hosting the annual Click for Cans competition where NFL fans get to vote for their favorite team and help their local Feeding America food banks earn more soup donations.
“Chunky has been committed to supporting hunger relief for 10 years now in partnership with the NFL,” said Douglas Brand, Campbell’s Chunky soup senior brand manager. “The competition gets fans coast-to-coast engaged in an important cause and lets them show their team spirit while helping their local communities.”
Since September 2000, the competition has provided millions of cans of soup to food banks, helping to meet the rising demands for meals to those in need. This year, the donation will include soups from the relaunched Chunky line, which are arriving on store shelves this month. More of these soups deliver a full serving of vegetables, are made with all lean meat and provide a good source of protein.
“More than 35 million Americans face hunger on a daily basis and for the last decade the Chunky Click for Cans competition has been invaluable in helping us feed those most in need,” said Doug Montgomery, director of corporate partnerships for Feeding America. “With just the click of a mouse, people can show their support for an important cause, make a difference in their own communities and have some fun at the same time.”
Getting In The Game
Few football fans are better at clicking for this cause than fans of the Green Bay Packers. For the last seven consecutive years, the Packers have claimed the Click for Cans championship by receiving the most votes during each weekly match-up during the football season.
But, it’s a new season, which brings a new champion. Will it be the Packers or another team who claim victory?
Only fans can decide which city wins – and ultimately receives the biggest donation to its food banks – by voting for their team in weekly match-ups on www.chunky.com. NFL teams compete in Click For Cans every week against the same opponents they face during the real-life NFL games. At the end of the voting week, wins and losses are recorded for each team based on the total votes accumulated during each match-up and teams will be ranked by their records to show overall team standings.
At the end of the regular season, the top four AFC teams and the top four NFC teams will compete in the three-week Click for Cans playoffs, where they will have a chance to play for the Click for Cans Championship and the ultimate prize—thousands of cans of soup for their local Feeding America food bank. In addition to the donations made to the conference winners (12,000 cans each) and the Click for Cans overall champion (an additional 5,000 cans), Chunky soup will donate 1,000 cans of soup to each of the 32 NFL teams’ Feeding America food bank affiliate on behalf of the Campbell’s Chunky/NFL Tackling Hunger® program.
