Lose up to 8 Pounds in 8 Weeks on the V8Diet; New Website Gives Dieters Keys to Unlock the Power of Vegetables

Press Releases

CAMDEN, N.J., Jan 15, 2004 (BUSINESS WIRE) — Just in time for the
New Year, V8(R) 100% vegetable juice unveils its new diet plan
exclusively at V8diet.com. With a click of the mouse, all the
information needed to succeed is available online free of charge, from
balanced meal plans to support tips to help dieters lose up to 8
pounds in 8 weeks.

The new V8(SM) diet plan offers two tools to help people meet
their weight loss goals: 8 days of meal plans and a handy guide of
substitutions to get dieters on track and keep them there. Designed by
nutrition and culinary experts at Campbell Soup Company (NYSE:CPB),
the flexible meal plans include many popular favorite foods; even the
restaurant take-out options people love.

“When we set out to create the V8 diet, we wanted to offer a menu
plan that focuses on the importance of vegetables to help achieve
calorie reduction,” says Dr. Chor San Khoo, Vice President of
Campbell’s Global Nutrition and Health department. “The result is a
diet plan that’s easy to follow, featuring at least six servings of
vegetables each day along with other easy-to-prepare foods.” “It’s
great for people on-the-go,” Dr. Khoo adds.

The diet incorporates generous portions of vegetables, including
varieties of V8 100% vegetable juice, and strives for the steady
weight loss of one to two pounds a week that most experts recommend.
Individuals who would rather not follow a set daily eating plan can
access a “Substitution Guide” of easy to adapt tips for weight loss.
For example, substituting a 12-ounce bottle of V8 100% vegetable juice
for a 12-ounce can of cola saves dieters 85 calories. Enjoying baked
potato chips instead of regular chips saves another 42 calories. The
goal is to choose several substitutions in order to save 500 calories
a day.

By downloading the “Substitution Guide,” dieters will have at
their fingertips ideas for lower calorie alternatives. Sidebars link
viewers to meal portion guides, government-approved information on
weight control and “Frequently Asked Questions,” as well as meal plan
recipes from Campbell’s Kitchen.

“The V8 diet is a great way for people to get the power of
vegetables into their diet,” says Doug Brand, Associate Marketing
Manager for the V8 brand. “We know that people love V8 100% vegetable
juice for its great nutritional benefits. Our products are also a
great fit into a low calorie or low carb lifestyle and we wanted to
deliver a diet plan that showcases all the great varieties of V8 as
well as lots of other vegetables to help people lose weight.”

Each eight-ounce glass of V8(R) 100% vegetable juice contains more
than a full serving of vegetables and is an excellent source of
essential vitamins A and C. A serving of V8 100% vegetable juice is a
good source of potassium and has 17 milligrams of lycopene, the
antioxidant that gives tomatoes their red color. That’s more than four
times the amount of lycopene found in a medium fresh tomato. Diets
rich in tomato products have been associated with long-term health
benefits. Scientists believe that lycopene may play a role in reducing
the risk for certain types of cancer.

In addition to dietary changes, the V8(SM) diet also recommends
that participants enjoy a regular exercise routine. Participants are
advised to consult with a physician before beginning any diet or
exercise program.
