Norwalk, C.T., March 25, 2009 — Pepperidge Farm, Incorporated yesterday was named the number one place to work in Connecticut in the large companies category of the Best Places to Work in Connecticut competition for 2009. Pepperidge Farm was particularly cited for its focus on values, inclusive, team oriented culture, dedication to the community and high employee satisfaction ratings. The list of 25 Best Places to Work in Connecticut was compiled by the Hartford Business Journal and Best Companies Group, based in Harrisburg, PA.
“We are thrilled to have this outstanding recognition for our company in our home state of Connecticut,” said Pepperidge Farm President Pat Callaghan. “When our founder Margaret Rudkin started Pepperidge Farm in Fairfield more than 70 years ago, one of her founding principles – in addition to producing the highest quality products – was to ensure that Pepperidge Farm was always an extraordinary place to work. We have been committed to that ideal ever since, and we work continuously to stay competitive.”
He added: “Between our two Headquarters locations in Norwalk and our bread manufacturing facility in Bloomfield, we employ about 700 people in this state. I am especially grateful to all our employees for their contributions to making Pepperidge Farm such a wonderful place to work, learn and grow.”
The mission of the Best Companies Group is to “identify and recognize companies that are superior in workplace excellence, leading the way in defining the employee experience of the 21st century.” The Connecticut competition for 2009 included large and small organizations from all over the state. Rankings were based on extensive information gathered from both company managements and employees themselves. Criteria ranged from salaries and benefits, to training and advancement opportunities, to employee activities, diversity and social responsibility. More than 300 Connecticut-based Pepperidge Farm employees completed surveys to provide their direct feedback for the competition.
