CAMDEN, N.J., Aug. 20 /PRNewswire/ — “M’m! M’m! Good!” Campbell Soup Company today announced a multi-year partnership with Olympic Gold Medalist Sarah Hughes. The 17-year-old figure skater will be picture perfect on more than 150 million labels of America’s favorite soup — Campbell’s Chicken Noodle.
Hughes has partnered with Campbell because of a shared commitment to education. The company is conducting the Campbell’s Sarah Hughes Scholarship instant win game, where lucky soup-lovers can win funds to be used to support their education. The instant win game will award a total of $300,000 in scholarships, plus 7.5 million bonus labels good for free educational merchandise through Campbell’s Labels for Education program. Details can be found on specially marked cans of Campbell’s Chicken Noodle soup or at www.campbellsoup.com .
Hughes also will become the first Ambassador for Labels for Education, the longest running label redemption program benefiting schools by providing free educational merchandise. The partnership will be announced at a special assembly at the Henry Highland Garnet School in Hughes’ home state of New York. Campbell will donate $10,000 in educational equipment to kick off the school’s 2002 label drive.
“I am passionate about education and am proud to be involved with a nationwide program that helps students, parents and educators make a difference in their schools,” said Hughes. “I encourage every school to take advantage of Campbell’s Labels for Education program to help provide America’s youth with the best educational experience possible.”
Campbell’s Sarah Hughes Scholarship instant win game will offer 114 lucky Chicken Noodle soup fans a golden opportunity. Four top prizes of $25,000 scholarships and 1 million bonus labels redeemable through Labels for Education for the school of the winners’ choice will be awarded. In addition to the grand prizes, 10 first prize winners will receive $10,000 scholarships and 250,000 bonus labels for their school of choice, and 100 second prize winners will be awarded $1,000 scholarships and 10,000 bonus labels. Every Campbell’s Chicken Noodle soup label featuring Hughes is also worth double value for the Labels for Education program. The instant win game will run September 2002 through January 2003, or while the special labels last.
Hughes’ golden performance in Salt Lake City puts her in one of the most elite groups of athletes in all of sports. She also becomes only the fourth athlete ever to appear on Campbell’s famous label, following skating greats Tara Lipinski, Michelle Kwan and Nicole Bobek.
Hughes’ preparation for the 2002 Olympic Winter Games was not limited to the ice skating rink. She made time to attend her public high school classes and believes that her pursuit of academic training played a vital role in her skating success.
“Sarah is an accomplished young woman on and off the ice,” said Anne Pizarro, Director of Campbell’s Labels for Education. “Her proven dedication to setting goals and working to achieve them is a great example for every student and athlete.”
Campbell Soup Company’s commitment to education formally began in 1973 when it introduced the Labels for Education program. Over the last 29 years, the program has provided nearly $100 million of free educational equipment to schools nationwide. Hughes’ involvement as Ambassador for the program is intended to bring to light the simplicity and benefit of label collecting to schools. Participation is easy: simply clip the labels from Campbell products, bring them to a participating school, and the school can redeem the labels for free educational equipment. Best of all, there is absolutely no limit to the number of items a school can receive.
