A key milestone in our FD&C colors transition

News

For more than 155 years, we’ve made great food that people love. As consumer preferences evolve, we continue to adapt our ingredients and recipes to reflect what consumers want—without compromising taste, quality or safety.

We announced plans to move away from FD&C colors (also known as artificial dyes) in September 2025. While most of our portfolio did not contain FD&C colors, we have now successfully transitioned our two remaining national brands, Lance ® crackers and V8® Splash, to colors from natural sources.

What this means

Across our 16 leadership brands, we’ve replaced any remaining FD&C colors with colors derived from natural sources. Lance crackers and V8 Splash now use colors from ingredients like annatto and purple carrot juice concentrate.

We are also making this change to our smaller, regional Snacks brands (Tom’s ®, O-ke-Doke ®, Jay’s ®, Stella D’oro ® and Archway ®), which will be completed by the end of July 2026.

A history of using colors from natural sources

While this milestone is significant, using colors derived from natural sources is not new for us. We’ve used colors from natural sources for years, and that expertise has allowed us to quickly and smoothly extend it across our portfolio.

For example, for more than 15 years, all Goldfish® crackers have used plant-based colors like beet juice concentrate and paprika, and Late July® organic tortilla chips have used ingredients like paprika.

Why it matters

Our approach is simple: make delicious food people love, using ingredients they feel good about. This milestone reflects our continued commitment to adapting based on what consumers want, while delivering the quality and taste expected from us.
